Tutorial: Participating in a Private Forum

The mechanics of participating in a private forum are pretty straightforward. Here’s the quick start:
  • Log in to Dunstable Commons
  • Click on the “Letters/Discussion” tab
  • In the list of forums, click on the name of the private forum (e.g., “Parent to Parent.” (Note: you won’t see it if you aren’t logged in)
  • Click on any topic you wish to peruse, or create a new topic if you wish to create a new one
  • Click on “add comment” to comment directly on one of the topics, or click on “reply” to reply to someone else’s comment
Want to see what that looks like? I’ve created a “screencast” tutorial, which takes a couple of minutes to watch. Please forgive me – I’m a novice with the technology I’m using to do this, and there are a couple of long pauses which you have to wait through, early in the tutorial. (I’ll find out what I did wrong, eventually.) Just press the green arrows to move forward or backward in the tutorial, and wait for the next notes and arrows to appear. Oh – it seems as though you need to press the first green arrow twice.

The tutorial is over 7 megabytes, so it may take a minute or two to load, depending on the speed of your connection. Here’s the link:

Screencast: Adding a Comment to a Forum

Let me know if you have any problems. (You can leave a comment, below.) I would also like to know if you find this at all useful.
