Subscribing to New Content
If you are a registered member, you can subscribe to different kinds of content on the Commons, so that you will receive an email when new content is added in that category.
For example, you can receive an email when a new discussion topic is added to a particular forum, when a new picture is added to the gallery, or when a new editorial is published.
In the left column, when you are logged on, you should see a navigation button with your username on it. If you click on it to open it up, you should see a menu with an entry called my subscriptions.
If you select this item, you will see a list of categories for content, forums, image galleries, etc. If you want to receive an email whenever a new page or story* is added in that category, click on the subscribe link to the right, and Dunstable Commons will make it so.
*This won't result, however, in your receiving an email whenever a new comment or reply is added to the original item. If you want to see when someone responds with a comment or a reply to a particular item, there is a way to do that, too. At the bottom of each item, there are links like these:
add new comment | printer friendliy version | subscribe post
Click on the subscribe post link, and you will be notified via email of new responses to this post. Subsequently, all links that used to say subscribe will then say unsubscribe. You can click on the unsubscribe link to quit receiving notifications on that topic or post.
Finally, you can tell Dunstable Commons that you want to automatically subscribe to any thread you create or post a comment to:
- Click on the my account link under your username
- Click on the edit tab of your user account page
- Scroll to the bottom and click in the Autosubscribe checkbox
- Click on the Submit button at the bottom of the page.
You can return to this page and un-check the box at any time to stop being autosubscribed.
