Announcements given at the October 3, 2007 GDRSD School Committee meeting.
High School
- Rainbow Players at the High School October 25 in the Black Box Theater Troup of Disabled actor and our own students
- Star Search: Sponsored by the Peer Leaders
6:00 pm Friday October 26th at the BBX - Halloween Dance: Sponsored by the Senior Class

Middle School
- October 19th is Month of the Young Adolescent - Parent Shadow Day
In celebration of this day the following activities will take place at the Middle School: - Student Essay Contest
- Parents may shadow their child for the day (attend classes)
- School Color Day - Maroon and White
- One student will be the Principal for the day. Any student can submit their name in the lottery!
- The Movie, Mad Hot Ball Room will be shown at 8:30 AM and again at 11:30 AM. Two of actors in the movie will be making a special guest appearance at the end of the showing of each movie. They will do some ballroom dancing and then participate in a question/answer session.
- October 30 is the Grade 8 Washington DC Parent Forum
Swallow Union
- Swallow Union formed an MCAS Action Team at the building level which is made up of Swallow Union staff. They are in their second year. Their goal is to analyze MCAS results, determine strengths and weaknesses and put into place an action plan to help with the strengths and weaknesses.
Florence Roche
- Last spring's MCAS scores were mailed to parents. Please feel free to contact the school with any questions or concerns.
- We'd like to remind parents and guardians about the specialists open house on October 25th from 7:00-8:00 p.m. Children and parents are welcome to come.
- Tickets for our Blacktop Blues Bash are on sale at the Flo Ro Lobby every day. This event will be held for October 27th at the Alpine Grove.
Prescott School
- The 3rd graders are preparing for their trip to the Williams Barn in conjunction with their SS unit on local history and farming in the 1800's. They are also learning about colonial life in Massachusetts via a simulation game. On November 1, they will journey to Plimoth Plantation to experience the life of the Pilgrims first hand.
- MCAS results are in and teachers will be analyzing the results on the full curriculum day on November 9th. At first glance, the staff is very pleased with the results!
- Teachers have been given collaboration time each week to focus in on student work. Rich discussions are taking place as teachers compare and analyze student work which then allows them to shift instruction accordingly.
- The Prescott Fall Festival was a huge success with over 350 people attending. Children enjoyed a variety of games in the gym which netted prizes, sang along the karaoke machine, and enjoyed pizza and soda served up by parent volunteers and the principal.
Boutwell
- The Boutwell Early Childhood Center is having science workshops that focus on the changing seasons for the end of October. The children will be exploring Preschool Learning Guideline #16 in the area of Life Sciences when they "Observe and describe seasonal changes in plants, animals and their personal lives."
